Born and raised in Lima, Ohio, Dr. Early completed most of his education at The Ohio State University. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1957, his medical degree in 1960, a residency in Neurological Surgery in 1966, and then a PhD in 1967. He also completed a BS degree in 1952 at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and fulfilled additional medical training at the U.S. Naval Hospitals in Bethesda, Maryland and Chelsea, Mass.
Following completion of the education, Dr. Early was the attending staff neurosurgeon at DaNang Civil Hospital, DaNang, Republic of Vietnam, from 1967-1968, where he completed over 700 neurosurgical procedures. Upon returning from Vietnam, Dr. Early remained in the Navy and established the Navy neurosurgery resident program and served as Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, MD from 1970-1983.
While an outstanding physician and neurosurgeon, Dr. Early is also and educator, and while a resident at OSU, he did original pioneering research in the Dynamic Pressure-Flow relationship of brain blood flow in a primate model. His work was cited as important in the understanding of human blood flow dynamics-normal and abnormal.
Retired from Cumberland Valley Neurological Consultants, Dr. Early and his wife, Dorothy, live in Ijamsville, Maryland.
